Bergamot is found throughout the Mediterranean and is a tropic citrus fruit from Citrus Bergenia plant. It has a similar color to a lime and yellowish depending on ripeness. Bergamot has a very distinct fragrance and flavor; the essential oils are extracted from the rind. This fruit is not sweet like the orange as a matter of fact it is not eaten fresh, however it is a good source of vitamin C, potassium, vitamins B1, B2, and A. bergamot oil have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
In Europe the flesh and zest of the Bergamot are used as a flavoring in cookies, custards, marmalades, syrups, and cocktails and of course this is one of the main ingredients of Earl Grey Tea.
